Struan Lodge Residents Compete at Care Home Highland Games

CCG Highland Games

On 30 May, a team of six proud residents from Struan Lodge Care Home brought their energy and Highland spirit to the first-ever CCG Highland Games, held at Manor Grange Care Home, also in Edinburgh. Eight care homes from across the region gathered for a day of friendly competition because staying active and connected matters at every age.

From hook-a-duck and axe throwing to the now-famous haggis toss, the games were designed to be inclusive and engaging, helping residents enjoy gentle movement, light-hearted fun, and a strong sense of purpose. Our residents were cheered on by staff and proudly led by our home manager — dressed in full traditional Scottish kilt. The team arrived with one goal: to take part, have fun, and represent Struan Lodge with pride.

We even brought home a win, taking Best Flag Design for our colourful and creative “Team Struan” banner, complete with illustrations, hanging flower pots, and a proud fox mascot in Highland dress.
The day’s top prize may have gone to another home, but the table full of medals and trophies symbolised something even more important, the recognition and celebration of community pride.

CCG Highland Games

More than just a day out, the Highland Games were created to help residents step outside their daily routines and reconnect with the wider world. For many older adults, opportunities like this are rare, but they’re also essential. Making new friends, celebrating wins, and simply enjoying the outdoors can have lasting effects on confidence, wellbeing, and joy.

Feeling good doesn’t stop with great care. It grows when people are seen, celebrated, and included in something bigger. At Struan Lodge, we believe in finding joy at every stage of life, and thanks to the Highland Games, our residents had a brilliant reason to move, laugh, and shine.

If you're looking for a care home where we make sure our residents continue to enjoy life whatever their interests, we’d love to invite you for a tour of our home. Get in touch with Struan Lodge Care Home to arrange a visit or find out more about life here.
