What is Dementia Care?
Dementia is a disease that affects several mental functions, including speech and memory. With the correct care and support, people living with dementia can continue to live their lives to the fullest, while staff helps them maintain their sense of self and independence for as long as possible. Struan Lodge Care Home recognises that no two people with dementia are alike, and that although some may only require modest support with everyday activities, others may require significantly more. Our Dementia Care is personalised for each person, and our home and staff provide the best atmosphere for people to live a happy and safe life.
Our Approach to Dementia Care
Our staff has received comprehensive dementia training, and we take pride in providing each patient with the highest level of care and respect possible. We make every effort to provide treatment that helps each person to attain their greatest potential and live a happy and comfortable life. Regularly planned activities improve social and mental stimulation and interaction, as well as address any frustrations and tensions associated with dementia. Our home has been built with thoughtfully designed areas and an understanding of the need for comfort and familiarity, as well as practical features like en-suite wet rooms, clear signage and contrasting colours.
When is Dementia Care Necessary?
Dementia can bring a variety of challenges to those who live with it, as well as those who care for them, on a daily basis. Dementia is a progressive syndrome, which means that the person with dementia will require more support and care as time goes on. If a person’s Dementia has developed to the point that they require more care and support than can be provided at home, they may require care and support from a care home. With the support of family and loved ones, Struan Lodge creates an authentic picture of a resident’s life, ensuring that both medical and wellness treatment is considered and delivered.
Prioritising Resident Safety & Wellbeing
COVID-19 prevention actions are carried out to the highest standard by the staff at Struan Lodge Care Home. We are continually working to ensure that these preventative measures are implemented and that they cause minimal inconvenience to our residents’ daily life. We strive to ensure that our residents receive exemplary standards of safety and hygiene, while also ensuring that they are comfortable in their surroundings. Our caring staff is dedicated to assisting both future residents and their loved ones, as well as those who are now residing with us during these trying times.
It is important that meaningful contact is supported and maintained for residents. There are no limits on how often residents can receive visitors but it must remain safe and manageable for the care home staff and residents themselves and we ask that these are pre-booked. Anyone who visits a care home should take an LFD test, you will be asked to show proof of the recent negative LFD test before visiting. This includes family, friends, children over the age of 12 and visiting professionals. You may take the test at home before you visit or the home can help you to carry out the test when you arrive.
A Fluid Resistant Surgical Mask (FRSM) must be worn wherever possible, and Infection Prevention and Control measures should be followed as instructed by care home staff. Residents, family, and friends are able to plan outings or activities from the care home and are able to do by working together with the care home to arrange.
For prospective residents, to have a tour of the home, it is necessary for this to be pre-booked and for evidence of a negative LFT test to be presented prior to entering the home. This applies to all guests within your party. At any time, the COVID-19 regulations and guidance from the Government, National and Local Healthcare Agencies may change.
