Daily Activities Programme

Our dedicated team works hard to provide a variety of activities so that residents have all they need to live a full and varied life. We encourage all residents to keep doing exactly what makes them happy, whether it’s reading a book in the garden or participating in an Arts & Crafts session as well as taking on something new.

Our Activity Coordinator plans weekly activities that are both stimulating and accessible, such as sing-alongs, baking and movie days. Our Programme also provides a variety of activities and alternative therapies for those with memory loss, such as memory boxes and reminiscing. In addition, organise numerous excursions to popular attractions in the Balgreen area and have fantastic relationships with the local community.

Promoting Independence

We place great importance on supporting each person’s independence and enabling them to make their own choices in daily life. Our skilled Activity Coordinators ensure there is always something engaging to do, offering a wide range of group sessions and personalised 1‑to‑1 activities tailored to individual interests. Events take place throughout the home on each floor, giving everyone the opportunity to join in and enjoy a refreshing change of scenery while staying connected and active in their community.

At Struan Lodge Care Home, we strive to offer a wide variety of activities that cater to residents of all ages, abilities, and interests. Whether someone has limited mobility, is living with dementia, or requires extra support with daily tasks, our Activities Programme is designed to be inclusive and engaging for everyone. From lively bingo games and creative arts and crafts sessions to baking activities, pet therapy and gentle chair exercises, there’s always something enjoyable to take part in. Residents can also join our weekly Newspaper Club to share stories and discuss current events. Every fortnight, we welcome local schoolchildren who visit to sing and interact with residents, creating heart‑warming intergenerational connections. Families are always encouraged to join in, helping to make each day full of laughter, friendship, and community spirit.

Activities Programme FAQs

At Struan Lodge Care Home we enjoy giving residents the opportunity to explore the local community. Local attractions include: Edinburgh Zoo, the local theatre and local public gardens such as Saughton Park.

We regularly invite entertainers such as singers and musicians into our home, to perform to both residents and staff. We love nothing more than watching residents enjoy a performance, and find themselves singing along or tapping their feet. We also enjoy and encourage visits from furry friends via Pet Therapy, where residents take great joy in petting and feeding pets.

We believe that relocating to a new home should not imply a change in lifestyle, and we strive to provide a cheerful and stimulating atmosphere for our residents. We take pride in providing a diverse and inclusive choice of activities that allow our residents to get the most out of their stay while also reaping the mental and social benefits that a stimulating activities programme can deliver.
